Donnacha O'Callaghan visits St Joe's

2nd Dec 2025

Donnacha O’Callaghan visited our school to tell us about UNICEF. He also talked about the books he wrote and about his rugby career.

Donnacha O’Callaghan is a former Munster rugby player.  He played as a lock (second row) and sometimes as a blind side flanker. He played for the Lions in 2005 and 2009. He is a 6 Nations champion and a H Cup champion. He won the Celtic League, or as it's called today, the URC.

He is 6 foot 6. He has blue eyes and brown hair. He has tanned skin.

He is a nice guy and he is very talkative. He is a very funny man. Even though he is jovial, we could tell he is very competitive from how he spoke about playing against Leinster. He is very supportive and loud in Ireland’s Fittest Family.

He has won Ireland’s Fittest Family a couple of times. He coached the Linehen’s family and they're now through to the quarter finals.

Once he ripped his shorts in a match and couldn't find a new pair.  He took peter Stringer’s shorts and they didn’t fit him.

He is now a children’s author and wrote two books called in a series called Disaster Dad. There are two more coming out.

He works with a charity called UNICEF and has been doing it since 2009 on the lions tour first in south africa.

When he visited, we had a jersey to raise money for UNICEF, the UN children’s charity.
